The BEST Training Program

So often I hear the question “What is the best way to improve (insert physical quality here) I’ve often gotten trapped into asking this question as well. Every time I ask it, and every time someone asks me, I basically receive / give the same answer. IT DEPENDS.

I cannot even begin to recount the amount of times I have heard that response. Yes, at times it is frustrating, but what’s important to keep realizing is that it is true. Take a simple question like “What’s the best way to get faster?” Now, take into account some follow up questions…

  • What kind of athlete are you?
  • How old are you?
  • What is your previous training experience?
  • Are you looking to improve acceleration or max velocity?

We can for sure dig deeper into those questions, but these are just the first four off the top of my head.

As a whole, athletes are all different people. Yes, training principles will often overlap between different athletes, and programs may often look similar… However, there is always SO much information at hand, and SO many different ways to approach training that we can never really give the answer of what is the “best” way to achieve any result. The key is always to keep your mind open and continuously look to improve both as a coach and as an athlete.
